Diploma Home-Based Childcare

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Home-Based Childcare (DHC).

This Level 3 Diploma, has been designed by CACHE and the NCMA (National Childminding Association) specifically for nannies and childminders working in a home-based setting.

Structure of Diploma (DHC):

The DHC is a 5 Unit qualification.
Unit 1 is the Introduction to Childcare Practice (ICP), students MUST have taken Unit 1 and passed the multiple choice examination before being allowed to progress onto Units 2-5.

Unit 1: Introduction to Childcare Practice
Unit 2: Childcare and Child Development (0-16) in the Home-Based Setting
Unit 3: The Childcare Practitioner in the Home-Based Setting
Unit 4: Working in Partnership with Parents in the Home-Based Setting
Unit 5: Planning to Meet Children's Individual Learning Needs in the Home-Based Setting

Mode of Delivery for Units 2-5 of the DHC:
Course can be studied by home-study and possibly by attendance

Course Dates: For home-study: students can enrol and begin the course at any time from July 2008
For attendance: We are considering providing an attendance option for this course in London/Reading- if you are interested in this please call us to register your interest and to find out the current situation.

Venue(s):
For home-study: students will study at home (no computer needed)
For attendance: venues to be confirmed- will depend on demand. It is expected that training will occur one night a week during term time.

Length of Course:
Course will take approxiamtely 9-12 months. Each of the four Units (2-5) will take 3 months each to complete. Students have the flexibilty to stop and start their Units to fit in with work /personal commitments and can gain credit for each Unit achieved. (Maximum length of time allowed to complete the Units is 3 years).

Assessed Course:
Yes, to succesfully pass each of the Units 2-5, students must complete the Unit assessment - these are completed in the students own home (no exams).

Accredited Course:
Yes, this is a CACHE Level 3 qualification.

Suitable For:
This course is suitable for all home-based child-carers such as nannies, childminders, au-pairs and maternity nurses, or those wishing to become a home-based child-carer.

Entry Criteria:
Students must be at least 16 years of age. No other qualifications are required. Ideally students will already be working in a home-based setting but this is not essential.
